Ordering takeout is a great way to give yourself a break from the kitchen and give our Central Mass restaurants some much-needed business.
Is it safe to get takeout food during the stay-at-home advisory?
According to the CDC website, there is no evidence to support the transmission of COVID-19 associated with food. Our local restaurants are working hard to ensure the safety of their staff and customers while in operation. The following tips will help to make sure you’re taking all precautions when bringing takeout food into your home:
- Minimize contact with people and surfaces. Whenever possible, one family member should handle picking up the food and transferring it into dishes for serving. It is best for fewer people to be touching doors, bags, food containers, etc.
- Wash your hands. This is important to do after coming home from picking up food, before touching any food while serving your family, and before you start eating.
- Transfer food out of takeout containers and into your own plates and bowls. To be on the safe side, it’s best to immediately dispose of bags and food containers when the takeout arrives at your house.
