And So…We Have a Valentine Tree

If you have had the joy of Christmas with a toddler you know that it is MAGIC. And then it is suddenly over…

Our daughter’s intense love of the Christmas tree only added to this. She was fascinated by the tree from the moment we brought it inside. Her favorite things were to pull over pillows and blankets and read by the tree (like a little stinking adult I may add). She would wake up in the morning and immediately ask for the tree in the manner one may ask for a special treat. Just after Christmas she began to say “night, night” to the tree.

I figured she’d get over it. We started adding other items to the “night, night” list. I took the ornaments and lights off before actually removing the tree to make it less exciting, as well as less abrupt. She still loved the tree. Let her “just get over it”…my mama heart just couldn’t this time.

It’s been “2020” for a long time. Couldn’t we use a little extra joy?

And so, we have a Valentine Tree. Oh, it’s not as grand as our Christmas Tree and only took a small amount of rearranging. It sits in a quiet corner, but it commands just as much love and joy. It creates a quiet spot for books and talks. It gives that little soft glow that just has to make you peaceful. It also gives opportunity.

This little tree has expanded our season of love potential. We get to make more special salt dough ornaments. Our little one gets to paint them and make all of the holiday season messes without the actual pressure of the holiday season. We get to hang tiny pictures of our valentines and create conversations around love and feelings. Mama is even working on some crocheted little hearts for the tree to keep the love and relaxation going.

What do you think, would you put together a tree or special spot for valentines day?
